Staff who help make the This Morning show a success are angry that they have not been invited to this years National Television Awards. Many of them are threatening to quit the show in protest at the snub.

show's bosses have decided to slim down the number of attendees and will only be inviting on-screen talent and senior executives to the event. Backroom workers will have to watch the awards at home while Holly Willoughby, Alison Hammond, and Dermot O'Leary will attend the event.

Sources reveal that show bosses have chosen to cut back on the number of staff attending the NTAs amid concerns that the recent scandal involving Philip Schofield could potentially impact This Morning's chances of winning the "Best Daytime Show" award for the thirteenth consecutive year.

The show is up against tough competition from ITV sister show Loose Women, tea-time quiz favourites The Chase, and BBC's The Repair Shop at the event, which will be held at London's O2 Arena.

In addition to the concerns over the Schofield scandal, there have been ongoing allegations of a toxic culture backstage at This Morning. Some staff members, who are disappointed by the decision to exclude them from the NTAs, believe that the show's bosses are aware that it won't be a particularly stellar year for This Morning due to all the recent controversies.

A This Morning source said: "People are upset at the slimming down as the show is such a group effort, and the awards are usually a big night out for the whole team. They're blaming the cost-of-living crisis but seem to be splashing the cash elsewhere. It doesn't help to shut down rumours of a toxic atmosphere. Some people suspect that bosses know it isn't going to be a stellar year for This Morning after all the scandal."

An ITV source has confirmed that the decision to reduce the number of staff attending the NTAs is due to budget cuts. It appears that the network is prioritizing financial considerations over staff morale and team spirit. While the move may save costs, it risks further fuelling the existing rumours of a toxic atmosphere within the show.

ITV has claimed it has taken the Schofield scandal seriously by appointing barrister Jane Mulcahy KC to examine the circumstances surrounding the 61-year-old presenter's relationship with a much younger male runner. This move highlights the network's commitment to addressing the issue and ensuring transparency and accountability.

The decision to exclude backroom staff from the NTAs, coupled with the ongoing scandal and allegations of a toxic culture, raises questions about the future prospects of This Morning.
