THEY were the most successful pop stars ever to come out of Birmingham, notching up hit after hit, playing world tours and winning rave reviews from critics.

But now recession-hit UB40 are battling to make ends meet, and have just sealed a secret deal to sell off all their famous hit recordings in a bid to pay off their £750,000 debts.

The band have sold the rights to their songs to record giant EMI, who are now believed to be planning the release of a UB40 greatest hits album later this year.
