Staff and pupils dress up to celebrate World Book Day
01/03/12

Pupils and staff at Newhills School have dressed up as the popular children's character Where's Wally? to celebrate World Book Day today [01 March 2012].

A readathon is under way with P7 reading the popular children's book 'Peace at Last' by author Jill Murphy to younger pupils at the school.

Staff and senior pupils have made pompoms so every pupil has a pompom on their hat including the headteacher.

Margaret Clark, headteacher of Newhills School said: "Pupils and staff thought it would be fun and educational to have a readathon to celebrate World Book Day and to dress up as a well-known character from a book.

"We all have our Where's Wally? hats and scarfs on so we are having a great celebrating World Book Day while the readathon gives senior pupils the opportunity to read to younger pupils which we hope will encourage a lifelong enjoyment of books."
